On 12 June Environmental State Secretary Jochen Flasbarth and Jorge Galdames, Environment Minister of Honduras, opened the 3rd Bonn Challenge Latin America America in Roatá, Honduras. Following El Salvador in 2015 and Panama in 2016, the forest-rich Honduras is now the third Central American country to pursue an ambitious reforestation programme through the Bonn Challenge. The BMUB is supporting the country in these efforts. more

Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary at the German Environment Ministry, met with Russia's Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Donskoi in St Petersburg on 2 June. They discussed additional steps to strengthen their countries' cooperation in the fields of environmental protection and climate policy, focussing in particular on the implementation of the Paris climate agreement. more

Under the German Presidency, the G20 have agreed on an action plan to combat marine litter. The action plan was adopted at a G20 meeting in Bremen in which government representatives, experts, representatives from business and industry, civil organisations and the scientific community from all member countries took part. In the action plan, all members commit to significantly reducing the input of waste into the oceans. more

The T20 is a network of leading research institutes and think tanks from the G20 countries. As part of civil society, the network is developing joint, research-based and concrete policy recommendations to support the G20 political process. more
