Alpine Convention - German Presidency

Germany held the Presidency of the Alpine Convention in 2015 and 2016 under the heading "The Alps – a symbol of European Diversity". Germany’s two-year presidency comes to an end on 13 October 2016. The Presidency will then be handed over to Austria for the 2017 and 2018 period.

The need for immediate action to protect the Alps was recognised at the Alpine Conference in 1989 in Berchtesgaden. Participants agreed on drawing up a binding convention under international law for the protection of the Alps. more
