Since 1993, World Water Day has been held annually on 22 March. It goes back to the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, when it was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly per resolution.
Despite its high status as a natural and cultural asset, water is rarely in the focus of public interest.
The World Water Day 2018 promotes a stronger consideration of near-natural or the natural potentials of ecosystems using solutions in water management. It is also about the valorization of the diverse services that provide such ecosystems.
